Watercolored Emotions
Artist Statement:
I loved this project. I used a lot of different things to create the different looks. The top left is with plastic wrap. The top middle is with splashing watercolor on the damp page. The top right is watercolor with salt. The bottom left is with rubbing alcohol splashed on it. The bottom middle was done with a white crayon before applying the water color. The bottom right was done by putting on watercolor and dabbing at it with paper towels.

Mandala
Artist Statement:
The title of this piece is called Seven Days. This piece is important to me because through this mandala I am able to share truth. I am able to share story of the Creation through a Christian's eyes. The center is a sun representing God because He is the source of all spiritual light, just as the sun is the source for all the light here on earth. The seven rings surrounding it give a description through symbols what happened each of the seven days of creation.
Foil Square
Artist Statement:
This art project was something that I had never done before. I began with my piece of cardboard cut out from an old cereal box. Then I began drawing my design of a sailboat out at sea with birds in the sky. I then traced the design with a black sharpie. Then I outlined the picture with hot glue. Upon it drying really fast I laid a piece of tin foil over the top and starting giving it definition with a Q-tip. Then I took some black shoe polish and covered it top to bottom and within a minute or two wiped it off leaving the excess in the fine details. This art project did not turn out one bit as expected, but I still felt that it was a success.
Georgia O'Keefe
Watercolor was one of the biggest difficulties I had this semester. But it was sure fun trying something new. If I was to teach this to my young students one day I would try a few things differently. First, I would teach watercolor basics and then I would slowly move into drawing their own picture. The viewfinder on this assignment sure gave it a different dimension. After my third try I finally felt success!
Egg Carton Mask
Artist Statement:
This mask was a fun one that I can't wait to do with my own students one day. This fancy and easy-to-do mask was inspired by Pinterest. At a future time when I am teaching this I hope to teach my kids a unit on birds or maybe have them do a report on a specific bird, making this an integrated lesson plan. I want to give them all opportunity to make the bird of their choice making sure they include the details of their bird to the best of their ability. Examples such as using the colors blue, black, and orange for a blue bird or maybe black, red, and orange for a cardinal. Reminding them there are also birds out there with black beaks and so forth.
Milk Jug Mask
Artist Statement:
I love art because it gives me a chance to express feelings or emotions in a way that I never have. It gives me an opportunity to see the world differently. Art is all in the eye of the beholder and I feel like I am finally catching a glimpse of what that really means.
Zentangled Scratchboard
Artist Statement:
Well I must say this project turned out to look a lot better than I thought! I didn't know if the paint mixed with dish soap over the top would smear the oil pastels beneath on the watercolor paper. But to my surprise it did not! I was feeling adventurous enough to try a few new mediums with this project including a fork, a spoon, and a dull pencil for scratching. It ended up being a hoorah!
Batik
Artist Statement:
The title of this piece of shirt, I mean art, is Bugs. I would do a few things different next time. I would give a few more differences to my bugs. Make one smaller and one bigger. I would add a few more bugs. I would allow my glue more room between the details. (As you can see my bee's eyes morphed together. And I would throw in a pattern around the extra space on the outside. Overall, I felt success though.
100 Color Challenge
Artist Statement:
This may have been one of the most challenging and time consuming projects of the semester. But it was also one of the most enjoyable ones. I loved the opportunity to really push myself with colors in a way that one day I want to pass on to my students. Looking at it now, I don't feel like it looks very hard to do. But it was sure interesting. I learned through this project that art takes thought and time and that is okay. We first have to be patient with ourselves.
Alien Name
Artist statement:
Alien names was a fun art project. My alien is beautiful because he is different. He has a mustache, which is always cool. And his body is opposite and still unique. The background I did with different colors of construction paper. This would definitely be fun to do with my elementary class one day!
Printmaking
Artist Statement:
This was one of my favorite art projects because it allowed creativity (something I didn't know I had). First, I mixed together different colors of tempera paint together. Then on the top picture I used lemons, onions, and Triscuit crackers to do some stamping. With the bottom picture I took some burlap and painted right on the burlap then rubbed my white piece of paper on it and pulled it off. The only thing I would change for next time is to not use so much paint. The "stamp" areas that looked best were done with the least amount of paint.
Light Painting
Artist Statement:
Through our light painting we were supposed to tell a story. Well mine is a wonderful story of love. I am madly in love with this sweet husband of mine and I wanted the world to know, hence the beautiful picture. Sparks still fly when we kiss (although our first kiss was still about 3 years ago). I love this picture and all that it represents. A picture really is worth a thousand words.
Notan
Artist Statement:
I had a lot of fun with this one. I had fun experimenting with different shapes and ideas. There really is no theme going for this one. This art project taught me to stay organized. This was my second try. My first one got a little confusing on which pieces went where so this was a good learning experience for me.
Cardboard Constructions
Artist Statement:
3 Dimensional art is really a challenge for me. I took a few pointers from someone in class to create slits into pieces of cardboard to piece it together. So I did just that. First, I took an old box and cut out triangles and rectangles of different sizes. Then I cut out slits. Then I painted each piece, after which I splattered yellow paint on them. After they dried I put the pieces together in a random way. In the end, I did like the finished product.
